“I HAVE KNEE PAIN.” WHAT DO YOU DO NEXT?

You’re about to start your group class when someone mentions pain or an injury.

What questions should you ask? What might you change? And how do you make a considered decision while managing the rest of the group?

Injury Awareness is a 4-hour workshop designed to help group Pilates instructors feel more prepared for these everyday teaching situations.

You’ll learn thinking frameworks to help you ask useful questions, explore appropriate modifications and recognise when someone needs advice beyond the group class setting.

ASKING BETTER QUESTIONS

You don’t always get much information when someone says, “I have hip pain or lower back pain.”

We’ll explore how to ask questions that help you understand what they’re telling you and what that means for their participation in class.

The aim is to give you a clearer starting point, so you can respond with greater confidence and care.

MODIFYING IN THE MOMENT

How do you offer an alternative while keeping the class moving?

We’ll explore practical frameworks to help you:

  • Think through exercise choices and modifications

  • Adjust movement, range, load and support

  • Respond to the person in front of you

  • Recognise the limits of what you can offer as a group instructor

We’ll briefly explore shoulder, hip, knee and low back pain as examples.

The focus is on making teaching decisions when someone presents with pain or an injury, rather than working through individual diagnoses and condition-specific protocols.

YOU’LL LEAVE WITH

  • A clearer approach to asking questions about pain and injuries

  • Thinking frameworks to help you modify exercises on the spot

  • Practical experience working through group-class scenarios

  • Greater confidence recognising when to adapt, pause or recommend further advice

  • Take-home notes to support your teaching

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

Pilates instructors who feel underprepared when someone mentions pain or an injury.

If those conversations leave you second-guessing yourself or unsure what to do next, this workshop is designed to help.

The workshop is Reformer-focused, with concepts you can also apply to mat teaching.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A 4-hour workshop combining discussion, Reformer exercises and case studies.

You’ll work in small groups, through realistic class scenarios, you’ll practise asking questions, considering options and choosing modifications — so you can take the frameworks back to your own teaching.

Take-home workshop notes are included.
